My baby is 3+months and exclusively breastfed. The intervals between breastfeeding is spacing out recently from 2 hours to 3-4 , sometimes 5 hours. My breasts are feeling full but not that painful. Do I need to pump when the feeding intervals are lengthened? Thank you. 純真

Congratulations! That's a

Congratulations! That's a very positive sign indeed!

Whether you should pump depends on your situation - Do you plan to go to work or otherwise leave the baby for an extended time soon? If so, now may be a good time to start pumping to a) build up an inventory, and b) maintain an elevated level of milk production, as your production may slowly go down as you start pumping more. The downside of this practice is that, as your production level remains high, you will face a higher risk of plugged ducts and even mastitis. Please see the Q&A for more info on prevention and treatment.

The best option is of course to let nature take its course, i.e. you follow baby's lead and let your body adjust the milk production to the level demanded by the baby.

No matter what you do, the sensation of full breasts will likely to fade over the next few months. Don't be alarmed by this alone as it is completely normal. 眨眼 Good luck!
