中央圖書館的育嬰室

I live in Macau too, and I breastfed my bb since he was born and he is now 1 yr old. However, I think 育嬰室 is really difficult to find here...even in hotels or shopping center... everytime I just use a cloth to cover myself...but now bb always not concentrate when feeding...so I would rather back home as soon as possible...

I 'm a mum living in US,and have a 21 months old daughter. My daughter is being breastfed from the day of her birth. I went to HK twice after my daughter was born. My daughter and I spent totally 5 months in HK. I just want to share some of our breastfeeding experience in HK.

I used the nursing facilities in CWB Central Library many times(I think more than 10 times) during this two trips with my daughter and my husband. Also, we went to the Kowloon Central Library in Mongkok too.

Let's talk about the CWB Central Library first, I remember my baby was just less than 3 months old, everytime we went there, I asked the staff on the first floor(main entrance level)requesting that I wanted to breastfeed my baby. They led me to a room which inside the office where I could lock it. It was not a formal nursing room(it just had 2 sofas facing opposite to each other...other things are for the staff..like emergency kit and some cluttering stuffs), but you can feel quite comfortable and no one disturb you. I always spent more than 30 mins there and my husband, who always accompanied me, usually fell asleep on the sofa while waiting for me.

My daughter was one year old when we went to HK again during the second trip. This time, we tried using the facilities in the play room for children in the CWB Central Library. We requested for using the nursing room which located next to the play room. The environment was clean and neat. No one disturbed us. We had a wonderful breastfeeding experience in HK Central Library. Me and my husband really like to say thanks to the staffs for being so thoughtful and polite.

For the Kowloon Central Library, I think it's quite "funny" when I look back. My daughter who was one year old at that time, suddenly wanted to be breastfed when I went there. I therefore went to the counter and asked for if there were facilities like CWB Central Library. The staff there seems really shocked by my question. I thought maybe she never handled these kind of matter before. She used the walkie-talkie, informing her colleague and asked me to wait. But my baby was very fussy at that time. I knew I couldn't disturb other readers, with my crying baby, if I searched for a chair in the reading room. I had no way, but entered a restroom nearby, where I found a chair..haha, not the worst, how lucky I was! I breastfed my baby in a restroom and had a nice chat with the worker there. When we finished and walked out from the restroom, 2 female staffs came to me and told me they had arranged a room for me temporarily. I felt sorry actually as I added extra works for them. They were being helpful. But this shows the older government buildings don't have the facility of nursing rooms and the staffs there don't have the awareness of the need of nursing mums.

Hwlau1, you said "真係唔明白點解當我係履行天職既時候都要受咁多委屈", I really understand your feeling. Maybe the policy of the Central Library is being changed, I am not sure. Actually, I likes to carry my daughter everywhere. It's really a plus if nursing rooms are availabled for us. But I can't let myself being blocked in my house to breastfeed my baby. So I breastfed her everywhere with a nursing cover. When we were on the go, like on buses, mini-buses, taxi, MTR stations, ferry...other public places like beaches, parks, Chinese restaurants, restaurants, cafes, Ocean Park, Disney.... I am so proud of myself and my daughter. I really can't imagine that I can do this before. It's so amazing. I found only some people throwing strange glare at me, but I know they are just curious, they are not offence to us. You know I breastfed my baby once in a very crowded Chinese restaurant during lunch hour. The girls or women who sat on the next table always stared at me and gossiping about me. I smiled to them politely. I know they will understand when they become mums.

The facilities or nursing rooms for breastfeeding mum in HK actually is not that bad, though it worths improvement! I seldom found nursing rooms here in US. But I saw mums breastfeeding their baby everywhere here. I even saw mums who carrying their babies, walking around in an aquarium/Toyrus, while breastfeeding their babies without nursing cover!

Just want to share some of the tips when I breastfed my baby in HK. I found it's really good, when you can't find a suitable place to breastfeed your baby in a mall: grab some clothes from the store/boutique with your baby, and breastfeed him/her in the fitting room! I did that a couple of time! Many fitting rooms have chair there!!

如果BB 有三四個月大或以上，出街的確是會心散食奶，因為BB 眼望得遠了，好奇心也會隨之增加。

至於育嬰室服務，謝謝你的意見，我們會向有關部門反映，提點一下改善服務。
